Bestway Infant Pool Float Review – An Honest Mum-Tested Look at This Awesome Inflatable for Infants

Around 5 months or so I knew I wanted to get Aiden in the pool so I went on the hunt for a safe, simple, and affordable way to get him used to the water. That’s when I found the Bestway Swimming Float Inflatable for Infants on Amazon.

It had great reviews, it was inexpensive, and it looked like the perfect way to let him float around safely. But is it really the best infant pool float for babies under 1? Here’s what we honestly thought after using it for a few weeks — from one mum to another.

What is the Bestway Infant Pool Float?

This float is essentially a round, inflatable baby boat designed for babies aged 0–12 months. It’s bright yellow, lightweight, and super easy to blow up. It’s made of pre-tested vinyl and has four separate air chambers to help with safety and buoyancy.

It also features a built-in seat where your baby’s legs go through two little holes, allowing them to sit comfortably while remaining upright, and it feels safer. The design is simple but effective, and at just 0.34kg, it’s really easy to pack and take with you on holiday.

You can usually grab it on Amazon for around £9.49, which is a bargain compared to other floats on the market.

First Impressions

The float arrived quickly and was exactly what I expected. It inflated really easily (I used a small pump, but you could do it by mouth too). The material felt sturdy for the price, and I loved how lightweight it was, I also loved that it had a back support to protect his head, which is great for those babies that are still learning to hold their head up!

But the first time I put Aiden in it — I felt he wasn’t quite ready, this was around 5 months.

Although the product is advertised as being suitable from 0–12 months, I personally found it much better suited once Aiden was around 5 to 6 months old, when he could hold his head up on his own. Before that, it didn’t feel supportive enough for his neck, even with the back support and he looked a little overwhelmed.

Aiden's Reaction

Once we tried again around the 6-month mark, it was a completely different story. He LOVED it!

He was super happy floating around, legs kicking, grinning ear to ear. The design kept him upright while letting him splash his arms and legs. He looked relaxed and content — and honestly, it made water time much more enjoyable for both of us.

If your baby loves bath time, they’ll probably love this too in the pool.

What I Liked Most

✓ Super lightweight – Perfect for travel or day trips✓ Quick to inflate and deflate – Four separate air chambers add peace of mind✓ Budget-friendly – Great value for under £10✓ Comfortable seat design – Keeps baby stable and upright✓ Bright yellow colour – Easy to see in water

It’s simple, but it works. And that’s often what we need as mums, right?

Let's Talk Safety

I have to stress: this is a float, not a safety device.

Even though the infant pool float keeps your baby mostly upright and supported, you must stay right next to them at all times. I never stepped away — not even for a second. I always had a hand on him or was kneeling right next to the pool.

Also, make sure the float is fully inflated and that all air chambers are secure before placing your baby inside. This inflatable for infants is meant to enhance water time, not replace supervision. Always remain within arm’s reach.

Is It Travel-Friendly?

Yes, absolutely! One of my favourite things about this float is how compact and lightweight it is. It folds flat and takes up almost no space in your suitcase or swim bag. If you’re heading on holiday or even to a local splash pool, it’s ideal.

We took it with us to turkey and Aiden was about 8.5 months, there was a baby pool and it was absolutely perfect, he loved it so much because he could also touch the ground of the pool so was all over the place, I couldn't wait to come back and write all about it.

Honest Mum Thoughts

There are loads of options out there for baby pool floats, but this one is a great inflatable for infants who are starting to explore water. It’s a no-fuss, no-frills product that does exactly what it says.

✓ Affordable✓ Lightweight✓ Easy to pack✓ Keeps baby comfortable✓ Great introduction to the water

Would I recommend it? Yes, 100% — as long as your baby is developmentally ready. It gave Aiden confidence in the water, and I loved seeing him enjoy himself safely.

My Top Tips Before You Use It

  1. Wait until your baby has good head and neck control

  2. Stay within arm's reach at all times

  3. Pair it with a sunhat and sunscreen

  4. Rinse and dry thoroughly after use to avoid mildew

Final Verdict

If you’re looking for a safe, affordable, and travel-friendly infant pool float, the Bestway Inflatable for Infants is a great choice. It's easy to use, doesn’t take up much space, and most importantly — Aiden genuinely enjoyed it.

Just keep in mind the age suitability. I’d say it’s ideal once your little one is around 5–6 months+ and can sit with support. For us, it was a hit.

Frequently Asked Questions

When can babies start using an infant pool float? Most babies can start using an infant pool float around 5–6 months old — once they have strong head and neck control. Although some floats are marketed for 0–12 months, it's important to wait until your baby can sit with some support.

Are inflatable floats safe for infants?Yes, but only with close supervision. An inflatable for infants is not a life-saving device. Always stay within arm’s reach and never leave your baby unattended in the water.

Can I use this float in a public pool? You can, as long as the pool allows it. Always check the rules first. The float is lightweight and easy to carry, making it ideal for public pools or splash parks.

How do I clean and store it?Rinse the float with clean water after each use and allow it to fully dry before folding it away. This helps prevent mildew and keeps it fresh for the next swim!
